Thea joined OLTA in September, 2011 as Executive Director. Prior to OLTA, Thea was the Director of Fund Development at Scientists in School (SiS), where she provided strategic leadership for all aspects of fund development efforts. Prior to assuming her staff role, Thea also served on SiS's Board of Directors.Thea has over 16 years experience in the non-profit sector. For 13 years, she worked with the Nature Conservancy of Canada where her responsibilities ranged from government relations and major gift fundraising to national program management and internal policy development. Prior to that, she undertook policy research for the Delta Waterfowl Foundation. On the volunteer side, Thea sits on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Land Trust Alliance and is a past Board member of Delta Waterfowl. She has M.Sc (Ecology) from the University of Guelph and a B.Sc. (Biology) from McGill. Outside of work, Thea runs around with her three busy children, and tries to find a bit of time to enjoy the great outdoors. Her dog, Napa, helps keep her grounded.
Jean Labrecque
Bookkeeper
Jean is a non-profit consultant in the accounting field. Having worked for not-for-profits for the past 37 years she has extensive experience with accounting as well as charity guidelines. Jean lives in Port Credit with her husband Paul and enjoys the small town feeling of the Port. Any free time they have is spent at the cottage in Georgian Bay.
Phyllis has been OLTA’s Member Services Coordinator since August 2008. Her responsibilities include organizing the annual conference, managing OLTA’s external communications and maintaining the office and related information. Phyllis has worked in the not-for-profit sector since 2002. Her experience includes event management and outreach projects. Prior to this career change, Phyllis held numerous senior management positions within the Reuters Group, both in Toronto and London, UK. Phyllis lives in Limehouse, on the Niagara Escarpment with husband Glenn.
Communication Officer
Kathryn joined OLTA in January, 2010 as the Communications Intern and she is now the Communications Officer. She is directly involved in the development and implementation of OLTA’s strategic communication plan, which includes raising the public profile of the land trusts’ work to protect the natural heritage of Ontario. In the fall of 2010, Kathryn graduated from Young Conservation Professionals, a development program for emerging environmental leaders. Kathryn holds an honours B.A. in Mass Communication and Cultural Studies from McMaster University. After graduation, she spent 3 months travelling across Canada and working on organic farms through the WWOOF program (World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms). She also completed a publicity internship in Toronto’s not-for-profit arts industry. She loves camping, hiking, snowboarding and biking, and is an advocate for sustainable agriculture and organic farming practices.
Program Manager Kristie joined OLTA in November 2009. Kristie is a graduate of the Sir Sandford Fleming College Ecosystem Management program and has worked in the field for over 8 years. Kristie has worked with Manitoba Conservation as a Dutch Elm Disease Inspector, and was a respected member of the Kawartha Conservation Authority, first as the Shoreline Naturalization Co-ordinator and then as the Manager of Environmental Protection and Restoration. During her time with Kawartha Conservation, Kristie was directly responsible for raising over $3,000,000 for land stewardship and acquisition programs. She lead her team to restore over 3 km of shorelines, secure over 1,200 acres of sensitive land, provide ongoing land management activities, and deliver a shoreline landowner outreach pilot program that reached more than 2,000 landowners. Kristie brings considerable program development and management skills to OLTA. In addition, she has extensive experience in the development of environmental educational programs. Kristie has served as a guest lecturer with Sir Sandford Fleming College for over 5 years and has developed and delivered accredited training programs for Real Estate professionals and property appraisers. Kristie lives with her family in Cannington Ontario.
