Make Your Alliance Work For You!
OLTA Member Survey
We want to better tailor our programs and services for all
OLTA members. In order to design
and deliver better programs and services, we need to know you
better!
So why do we need all this data and detail?
1) New
program development! - knowing you
more will help us allocate precious HR and financial resources better.
2) Funding - to create a) passionate case for support and b) design
programs with measurable achievable outcomes
3) Public
support - the first two
reasons people give to causes are: 1) they believe; and, 2) they trust the organization is
well-managed. By bragging about our aggregated results - total acres in
protection and the hundreds of volunteers dedicating their time,
we demonstrate not only a passionate cause but good organizational
management!
4) Network
Communication - by summarizing in one place who is
doing what (on the members only section of the OLTA website) you
will be able to find out who to call; who has experience or who
would likely be interested to partner on a new project e.g.
sharing a GIS mapping staff person.
Please fill out
and return your member survey today!

Magna's Wild West Hoedown
Oak Ridges Selected as recipient chairty for September 15th event
Oak Ridges
Moraine Land Trust has been selected as a recipient charity
of Magna's famous Wild Wild West Hoedown to be held this year on
September 15, 2007. The Hoedown is York Region's largest annual
community fundraiser and has raised millions of dollars for a number of
community causes over its 20-year history. Thousands come to gather
under the 25,000 Sq. Ft Hoedown tent for a mouthwatering Texas BBQ
dinner, foot-stomping country and western music, and old-fashioned fun,
Hoedown-style - all in support of 15 community groups. This year the
Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust will be the only environmental
organization participating. For more information on the Hoedown please
visit
www.hoedown.ca/
Being a recipient of the Hoedown's funds also means that
we will need to help out with the event itself. We need volunteers to
help with the initial set up, during the event, and taking down the day
after. The Land Trust has a new quick and easy online volunteer sign-up
form at
http://www.oakridgesmoraine.org/volunteer.php
This form isn't just for the Hoedown, but is a general volunteer form,
so if you are interested in signing up for the Hoedown, just type in
"Hoedown" in the comments section.

Working together to leave a legacy of
healthy landscapes

June 13, 2007: Special
Bulletin for
We are pleased to share
with you advanced notice of a recent gift of property to the Thames
Talbot Land Trust. On June 8, 2007 Omnibus Research Inc. donated the
Newport Forest to TTLT. Our thanks go to Kee and Pat Dewdney for this
extraordinary act of generosity which has created a perpetual natural
legacy.
General Description:
Newport Forest is a 110
acre (45 ha) area on the south side of the Thames River near
Wardsville, Ontario within the Deciduous Forest Zone. Historically, it
is ecologically contiguous with the Skunk's Misery area on the north
side of the Thames, barely one km distant over intervening agricultural
land. The property consists mainly of lowland forest, with some upland
forest (the Hogsback), meadow, ravine slopes and bluff forests, and
floodplain. The highest point of land is the Hogsback (5 ha), a
partially eroded Pleistocene rover terrace. The lower part of Newport
Forest is subject to periodic flooding and this influences plant and
animal life considerably. The soil is glacial clay with some underlying
till and an upper horizon (about 10 dc) of clay loam.
Additional Information may
be found at:
http://www.csd.uwo.ca/~akd/conservation/Newport.html
A
dedication event is being planned for 22 September 2007 and details
will be provided as they are available.

Gordon,
Executive
Director

Algoma sets $2M goal for Stokely Creek 2600 acres
excerpted from
President's update June 20, 2007
Algoma Highlands Conservancy recently informed Astina
Establishments of their intent to proceed with fundraising for the
purchase of the Stokely Creek Lodge and surrounding 2600 ac.
Assuming final sign off by both parties, this would ensure
continuation of the Lodge and ski operations for the upcoming season
and beyond. Required maintenance and refurbishing work is already
underway on the Lodge and ski trails. During the next 8 to 10 weeks, we
will be finalizing an operating plan for the Lodge and a 2-year
fundraising plan for the purchase of the property.
There is an overall $2,000,000 target and much
work to be done in the coming months to raise the funds necessary for
achieving the protection of the Stokely property and a
long-term, sustainable future for the Lodge.
We all need to play a role in spreading the word
and making sure that everyone who loves Stokely (or could love Stokely)
contributes to its future!
Thank you for your generous pledges of support to date.
The Board looks forward to working with you to bring Stokely back
bigger and better than ever!
Doug Pitt, President Steve Holmes , Vice-President.
