Seasons Greetings!

Christopher Baines, President of The Ontario Land Trust Alliance is pleased to announce that the Board of Governors approved of the appointment of Kathy Allan as the first Executive Director of OLTA. The Board of Governors of OLTA on behalf of its member organizations throughout the province is delighted to be able to work with Kathy in delivering programs and services that will build strong land trusts in Ontario, foster public confidence in land conservation and secure the lasting protection of our cultural and natural heritage.

With Representatives from more than 20 land trusts as well as staff from government agencies, conservation authorities, and industry experts, this years conference was an excellent opportunity to share knowledge and learn about new initiatives in the land trust community.

Our plenary speaker, Gord Miller, Environmental Commissioner of Ontario, gave an inspiring speech about how our work at the community level can be an important part of the continued fight to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Please click read on below.. for Remarks from the Chair , Reports from the Government Relations Committee and the OLTA Constitution.

Four NGO's - OLTA, Wildlife Habitat Canada, Nature Conservancy Canada and Ducks Unlimited - met at MNR's headquarters in Peterborough on Nov 30th. The intent of the meeting was to determine if there is general consensus that MNR is the appropriate lead agency with respect to mapping secured lands and managing secured lands data for the province of Ontario.

All NGO partners present agreed to take this suggestion back to their organizations and confirm if their organizations are supportive and willing to participate in this data modeling exercise. OLTA needs to hear from members - please contact Kathy. Do you support our continued involvement in further discussions with respect to this multi-year initiative?
