Time is running out. Our most precious lands in southern Ontario are under threat. Some predict we are too late; some say we have only a very few years to secure essential lands required to keep our lands and wildlife healthy in perpetuity. We believe we have a chance - with your help.

How you can help conserve land in Ontario forever:

- Join your local land trust today.
- Make a donation to your local land trust.
- Add a Bequest to your will
- Advocate for land conservation in your municipality.
- Learn about the benefits of community-based land trusts for the protection of local land and share your knowledge widely.

Invitation for Proposals

Deadline for Submissions: January 22, 2010

A total of $240,000 is available in the 2009/2010 funding cycle of OLTAP.

·         The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources is contributing $190,000 for eligible land trusts to secure natural heritage property that will help protect areas of significant biodiversity and ecological function.

·         Environment Canada Habitat Stewardship Program is contributing $50,000 for all eco-gift eligible conservation organizations securing property with Species at Risk present on the property.

The available funding is being dispersed through a series of application windows. There were application windows in June and September. These resulted in $125,760 in grants being distributed. A third application window will close January 22, 2010.  Up to $114,240 may be allocated at that time.  An additional application window will be announced if funding is available.

The Ontario Land Trust Alliance (OLTA) is pleased to invite OLTA members to submit proposals for funding consideration. Applicants are asked to submit one print AND one electronic copy of the completed Application Form in a single PDF as outlined in the guidelines by January 22, 2010.

OLTAP funding is to be used for the costs of land securement transactions, including donations and purchases of titles or conservation easements. Proposals will be reviewed by the OLTAP Committee and recommendations for funding made to MNR for approval.

Please feel free to contact Ian Macnab (416-580-7620) at any time if you have any questions.

The Ontario Land Trust Alliance would like to thank the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Canada – Ontario Region for their support of the Ontario Land Trust Assistance Program.

Sincerely,
